When we clean your homes carpets we carry air movers (fans) to help dry your carpets and remove the moisture from your home therefore helping to speed up the dry time so you can enjoy clean carpets and piece of mind.
As we all know there are different methods to carpet cleaning and along with those methods there are varying dry times. We question that we get asked from our clients is "How long until the carpet is dry so i can move my furniture back?" There are several variables to that answer.
Lets break this down.
If you were to use a company like Chem dry than the carpets will dry a lot quicker, that is because Chem dry does not use Steam to clean they rely on a cleaning method that is a known as VLM or Very low moisture. While this great for dry time it does not ensure a thorough cleaning. Where as steam cleaning uses water and as water is heated it expands therefore increasing dry time
Now if your carpet is lightly soiled than there will be less moisture in the carpet than if it were heavily soiled and required a much deeper cleaning method that can take longer to dry.
The material of the carpet can determine how well it retains the moisture just as well as how thick the pile is, the easier it is for the carpet to breathe the quicker the dry time
Air movement is key to dry times. Have you ever taken a shower without the bathroom fan on and the door closed and noticed when you get out of the shower you are dripping wet and there is moisture in the air? That is usually because of lack of airflow and the air being saturated with moisture. Now if you leave the door open and use the bathroom fan all of the moisture from the shower is gone and you dry off a lot quicker, this is because of the air being circulated and the moisture being removed The same thing with your carpet, if you open windows and have a fan or two this will expedite your dry time, but if you close up your home the moisture has no where to go
The other factor is weather. We live in the pacific northwest where we get a fair amount of precipitation. We just talked about airflow and moisture. If the weather is rainy than the air will have some moisture saturation meaning that it wont be able to dry the carpets as fast or efficiently being that wet out side. An example would be a sponge, once a sponge get full it can no longer absorb water. In this situation the best bet is to turn on the heat in your home and leave some windows open or cracked so that you still get some airflow and allow the moisture to escape
